Job Description

Sick of your leadership team being stuck in a more ‘traditional’ mindset?

Something I hear all too often is that people are looking to leave their job because the business can’t move into this century. Coming in as an Operations Manager, you’d be joining a progressive and open-minded leadership team that are way past being stuck in the 60s.

Don’t get me wrong, there are probably still a couple of old school ways that you’ll need to navigate, but the buy in and support you’ll get from the SLT will make it easier to make improvements - the bonus is that you’ll be able to see the impact of what you’re doing quite quickly.

You’ll play a big part in the development and improvement of current organisational strategies and future growth, and they’ve just won a huge new contract too which will see their market diversification really accelerate as well.

It's pretty common for most Ops/Production Managers to have some sort of hand in the planning function, but for this role it’ll be more than just overseeing.

Obviously you’ll look after Ops and everything that comes with it, but planning will be yours too. Operational Efficiency is imperative in this role, so you’ll be using your knowledge of ERP to establish clear direction for plans moving forward. You’ll be looking after a Planning Coordinator who’s fairly new to the business and is on a development path which will mean quite heavy involvement in planning from you for a while until they begin to find their feet (also a chance for you to mentor), so you’ll need to be comfortable leveraging an ERP system for all aspects of Production Planning. They’re in the middle of an Epicor implementation so it’d be a bonus if you’ve ever gone through that too.

There’ll be some challenges (as with most exciting roles) along the way, as admittedly, they’ve got this one wrong a couple of times, so your first port of call will probably be coming in and simply understanding the current dynamic of the business before getting straight to work.

In terms of culture, it’s quite hard to find somewhere these days that values their people so much. They’re dynamic, friendly and across the board, typically longstanding (your boss is getting on 20 years in the place). Internal progression is something that’s really important to them as a business as well, so not only will you have development opportunities within your own role, but it’ll also give you the opportunity to upskill the team moving forward and as the business grows.

Ultimately, it’s a chance to put your own stamp on something in a business wanting to improve and one that’s willing to give you the autonomy to make real changes. In an ideal world, you’ll come from a manufacturing background and even better if it’s aerospace – though that bit isn’t essential.

They’re based in Sheffield and salary is around the £55-60k mark plus car allowance, though there could be flex for the right person.
